Freda Catherine Burroughs Finch, 93 transitioned to eternal life peacefully at home in Benton, KY with her family by her side on Sunday, April 11, 2021. She was the second child of 5 born to John Glenn Burroughs and Buenita Evelyn Thornburg Burroughs in Carmi, IL on June 12, 1927.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Finch, brother, James Burroughs, and sister, Helen Burroughs Leise. She is survived by her son, Daniel E. (Maya) Finch of Issaquah, WA and Debbie Anderson Cate of Benton, KY. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild who loved her very much. They are Ryan (Therese) Anderson, Nicole (Danny) Musgrave, Katlyn (Marcus) Wilson, Greg Finch, Mia (Travis) Holbrook, Michael (Isabela) Abboud, Krysten Abboud, and great-granddaughter, Tatum Musgrave. She is also survived by sister, Mary Winter of Carmi, IL and brother, John (Linda) Burroughs of Santa Cruz, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Freda grew up on a farm Northwest of Carmi, IL with her parents and siblings and enjoyed driving the tractor. She graduated from Carmi High School in 1945 and attended SIU where she earned her teacher’s certificate. She taught in a one-room school before moving to Grayville to teach first grade. There she met the love of her life, Sam, in 1949 and married Feb. 15, 1950. During their 60 years together they enjoyed fishing, travelling the country tent camping, and spending quality time with their children and grandchildren. Freda was known for her excellent baking skills which she loved to share and for being an avid woodcarver. She also enjoyed playing cards, dominos, and bunco with a special group of ladies including her daughter and other retired Marshall Co. School employees.
She served the Lord at Impact Church in the Brewers area of South Marshall. She will go to her final resting place at Marshall County Memorial Gardens in Benton, KY with a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers her wish was that donations be made to Impact Church Missions Fund, 337 Flat Rd. Benton, KY 42025.
